By the end of 2013, film prints will be a thing of the past.
The movie industry is changing its medium from film prints to digital hard drives of movies. Digital hard drives are cheaper to ship, easier to project, and are thought by many to be of superior quality. By the end of this year, the industry conversion will be complete. However, in order to be able to project the new digital hard drives, new digital projectors are needed in the place of the old film projectors. These projectors are expensive. By making its decision to convert to digital, the film industry has put small independent theaters like the Art Mission and Theater at risk.
We at the Art Mission and Theater need your help to purchase the new projectors so that we can continue to show you the best in contemporary independent films, or even any contemporary film at all.
It is “do or die.” We are asking those of you in the Binghamton community who value independent cinema to contribute to the purchase of two digital projectors. The total amount required for this purchase is $86,000. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together to support the art that is important to us. Soon, when you watch that crisp new digital film at the Art Mission and Theater, you will feel proud that you have been a part of making this transition happen.
