The Board of Directors of the Art Mission & Theater announces the selection of an artist in residence. Kate Chesebrough will work collaboratively with the organization as a design-thinker. Her work will be focused on site-specific interventions at the ART building with an overall strategy of ‘placemaking’. Landscapes are richly cultural, ecologically connected, and intrinsically creative- this residency takes the opportunity to actively engage with the exterior environment and the people inside of the ART building to affect experience. Her work will focus on the courtyard adjacent to the building and the entry for residents and ART Mission & Theater audience. Plans include developing a native species garden, sustainable initiatives, and public art installations.

Kate attended Vestal High School and her family developed and maintains the building as Marchez LLC. Kate earned a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from SUNY ESF with a focus on the transformational role of creative spaces in the landscape. She hopes that this residency will serve as a model for enhancing the urban environment with sustainable and artful landscape practice. The ART Mission is excited to work toward these goals. Kate is employed by Whitham Planning & Design, LLC landscape architecture and planning firm in Ithaca, NY as a landscape designer. Her residency will last from April 2017 – 2018. The public is welcome to visit the ART building as work develops.
